Seasonal variations and heavy rain pose challenges in the wastewater management industry as large amounts of water can overload the plant. This challenge is a complex situation to forecast, as there are typically several sources of wastewater to the plant, with varying capacities, as well as unpredictable rainfall and meltwater. The engineers in the plant have a difficult job and a small time window to decide how to handle high-flow situations.


One of our clients decided to use Intelecy to forecast water flow to their wastewater plant to better handle these situations. This forecast model was complex, utilizing over 40 input variables to predict the water level at the inlet to the plant. Using the forecast model enables the engineers to make corrective actions several hours in advance, giving them enough time to react to and avert overload situations.
