The promise of AI in industrial operations has never been the ability to answer questions we already know how to ask. The real opportunity is far more profound: systems that understand complex processes, surface patterns no human would think to look for, and recommend actions before problems arise - enabling factories to operate more efficiently and significantly reduce energy use, emissions, and waste.
That's the future Intelecy is actively working to build - and over the past year, that work has moved from ambition into a structured, multi-year R&D project running in real industrial environments.
Together with VEAS, TINE, and GC Rieber, and backed by Innovation Norway, Intelecy is developing the next generation of autonomous system intelligence: technology designed not just to monitor industrial processes, but to truly understand them.
The project builds on Intelecy’s no-code Industrial AI platform and represents a major technological step forward. The ambition is to move beyond AI systems that solve predefined problems, towards technology that understands complex industrial processes, explains cause-and-effect relationships, and recommends concrete actions to improve performance and sustainability. This forms the foundation for self-optimizing production, combining autonomous system intelligence with human expertise and oversight.
“With the innovation project, we are taking a fundamental step toward truly autonomous industrial intelligence. By working closely with leading industrial players, we can develop technology that understands real-world processes and delivers measurable impact, not just insights.”
Camilla Gjetvik, CEO of Intelecy
To realize the full potential of industrial production efficiency, factories must evolve from basic performance monitoring to systems that can understand, recommend, and ultimately act on complex process behavior. The project focuses on advancing industrial AI from being dependent on human-made models using predefined data to autonomous, self-optimizing intelligence, step by step, and in close collaboration with industrial operators.
Through the innovation project, Intelecy and its project partners will advance these capabilities in real industrial environments, ensuring that they are introduced in a controlled, explainable, and value-driven way.
Close collaboration with industry leaders
The project is carried out together with a group of experienced and highly relevant industrial partners:
Together, these partners contribute data, operational expertise, and real production environments, ensuring that the technology is developed around concrete challenges and validated through real-world use.
Supported by Innovation Norway
The innovation project is supported by Innovation Norway, the Norwegian government’s main instrument for innovation and development in Norwegian enterprises. Innovation Norway supports ambitious projects that strengthen competitiveness, enable sustainable growth, and accelerate the development and commercialization of new technologies.
“This project demonstrates how advanced technology development, strong industrial collaboration, and sustainability ambitions can be combined. The initiative has the potential to create significant value for Norway and beyond.”
Håkon Haugli, CEO of Innovation Norway
The ambition is industrial production that is genuinely self-optimizing: where AI handles the complexity of continuously changing processes, and human expertise is freed up for the decisions that actually require it. This project is how we get there - building the technology in the places where it matters most, alongside the people who know these processes best.
